Note to my Iron Man readers: this actually is not an Iron Man story, but it does have my character from those IM stories, Charlotte Sparrow, in it. Since this is set in 1767, I think you can see it's a bit before Tony's time! But I hope you might enjoy it even without Tony :)

"Is it a… gauntlet?" Charlotte asked uncertainly as she ran a finger down the gleaming metal device lying on the table.

"You could call it that," Tony replied. "But the best way to explain is by demonstrating."

( After reassuring Pepper that they hadn’t spilled any blood, they had come downstairs to Tony's workshop, what Charlotte called his 'inner sanctum and toy box', so he could finally show her what he'd been working on with such intensity. Last night, when she'd arrived, there’d been some sort of robot leg on the worktable opposite the one with the gauntlet. )

( The granite of the stairs was cool against Charlotte’s bare feet as she headed down to the living room from the guest wing. Wearing jeans and a t-shirt that read ‘Friends Don’t Let Friends Drink White Zinfandel’, she was desperate for a cup of tea after last night’s tequila blowout with Tony. )

Yeah, yeah, yeah... Tell me about it. The tipping point was the conversation over at Ironman Lounge this morning, and the result was this.

Black Isn't My Colour

( The guy at the corner table screamed 'Fed' – black suit, black tie, white shirt. But more than that, it was the air of innocuousness that contrasted with eyes that didn't miss a thing. Yeah. He was definitely the meeting.  )

A little crack type fic for the lunchtime hour. Very short, very silly. Don't ask me where it came from, because I have no freakin' idea! I figure after all the angsty Iron Man fic I've been writing, something lighter would be good!

'Tequila Lullaby'

( Charlotte stretched her arm out across the bed, not at all sure where she was. They weren’t her sheets -- her sheets weren’t silk. Oh…right. Tony’s; she was at Tony’s. Memory trickled back. They’d gone for burgers. Tony’d had four, leading her to inquire if his Arc Reactor required beef and cheese for fuel. That had earned her a genuine smile. Then they’d come back here and there had been tequila, lots and lots of tequila. She vaguely remembered playing the piano, Tony throwing out requests that got crazier with each shot of alcohol. )

I did it again. More Iron Man ficagge. This is a prequel to 'Practical Applications' and is all angsty and broody. I've discovered there's a tired to angst ratio when I write. And I was really tired. The wine probably didn't help either. I'll probably regret posting it in the morning. But for now...

I'm throwing this out here since I don't know where the hell it came from! Basically, it's an outtake, or a detour, of the story I'm currently writing, "I Am Going To The West", which is a Highlander fic. Why did I write this? I wrote it because Tony Stark is annoying and pushy and wouldn't shut up! He was peeved he'd been sidelined in favour of Methos and company, so to get some peace, so I can finish my story, I threw him a cookie. Except he tricked me, and it's gone from short little fic to an epic. Part two is being worked on as you read.

I Am Going To The West


Methos made his way north to Rancho Caballo Rojo. According to Hank Jenkins’ directions, he should almost be there. A fence line had appeared a few minutes before and next should be the entrance to the road leading to the Black place. The gentle murmur of the Rio Grande floated around him, and the sharp light of the autumn sun warmed his face. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and allowed himself to relax, his horse setting the pace.

( It would be good to stay in one place for a time. Even if it was just for a winter. He’d left ‘Doctor Benjamin Adams’ behind a few years ago, and still was in that place where he didn’t feel quite right in his skin; comfortable in this new persona. “If you want my advice, I’d hire Carrie Williams away from Seacrest Vineyards,” Charlotte told Duncan. “She’s an assistant winemaker there; young, but with a lot of promise. As your winemaker, she can bring your label an edge.”

“Do you think she’s up to the challenge?” Duncan asked as he refilled Charlotte and Methos’ wine glasses.

“Absolutely! This winery has so much potential, and Carrie can help you realize it.” She took a sip from her glass. “I almost bought the place back myself.”

“You used to own it?” Methos asked curiously.

“I did. It was part of my landholdings once; I sold it just before Prohibition. It’s good land,” she said with obvious fondness. “I think you’ll be very happy here, Duncan. This is a place where even one of us can grow roots.”

“I think I’d like a few roots,” Duncan admitted, with a smile. “It feels like home already.”

( The three Immortals, having finished the lunch Duncan MacLeod had made them, had spent the last half-hour talking about Duncan’s plans for the winery that he’d just purchased. Charlotte, who owned a neighbouring winery, had been giving him the benefit of her experience and local knowledge. Duncan, being the soul of politeness, had resisted trying to assuage his curiosity on just how Methos and Charlotte Sparrow knew each other. )

( There was nothing like it; cruising along the California coast at twilight, the soft light of day’s end and night’s beginning caressing the horizon. This was true freedom, and Tony thought that this must be what a bird felt as it took wing, looking down on all God’s creation. No interruptions, no work or obligations to intrude on this moment of peace. Though the suit had brought a whole new set of complications into his life, it had also brought him this; solitude, and maybe… grace. )

“Fishing? You fish?” Duncan MacLeod asked in disbelief.

“Yes, I like to fish,” Methos replied, sorting through his tackle box. “It’s very relaxing.” Then he paused for a moment. “Well, it is now. Not so much back in the day; running around naked in ice cold water with a pointed stick. That wasn’t relaxing at all.”

Rolling his eyes, Duncan said, “No, I’d imagine not.”

“But this? Oh yeah.” Methos was beaming.

Duncan pushed open the cooler lid with his foot, eyeing the dozens of beer bottles within, giving Methos a look. “And this?”

He handed Duncan a pole. “Bait.”
